Bespoke 43m Catenary Pendant Lights Up Wellington Place!
The custom pendant at 11 & 12 Wellington Place combines our knowledge of catenary lighting applications as well as our expertise in developing bespoke luminaires.
From bespoke wall brackets designed to withstand the weight of the pendant to overseeing the fabrication of the custom LED channel, Studiotech was responsible for the full development of the concept, designed by Planit, of what is believed to be the first catenary pendant of this style.

Studiotech managed the entire engineering design solution, which included developing a bespoke pendant based on Planit’s original concept. Our broader scope included structural calculations, customised fabrication, installation, control and programming
The sheer scale of this pendant required expert detailed design and engineering including the precise length and weight bearing calculations of the catenary cable to ensure a safe and efficient installation.
Solution
From bespoke wall brackets designed to withstand the weight of the 43 metre long pendant to overseeing the fabrication of the custom LED channel, Studiotech was responsible for the full development of what is believed to be the first catenary pendant of this style.
The luminaire consists of ten fully bespoke structural curved members, each formed to the same radius. Each section was constructed by bonding aluminium sheet material to rolled aluminium angle sections, with CNC cut forming sections at the top and bottom. This design creates a central void that houses the power supplies, ensuring both structural integrity and seamless integration of electrical components.
Experience
The bespoke pendant suspends above the walkway, creating an impactful transition between the buildings and public realm below. The detail and engineering behind the pendant makes this a true one-of-a-kind piece for a similarly unique destination.
