magical glow-up for inverness castle!
Inverness Castle sits prominently above the River Ness and plays a key role in the city’s historic skyline. The project focused on introducing a sensitive night time lighting scheme that enhances the castle’s architectural character while respecting its heritage setting.
Studiotech worked closely with the design and installation teams to deliver a façade lighting solution that adds atmosphere after dark and strengthens the castle’s presence within the surrounding landscape.

ENGINEERING DESIGN
Studiotech was involved from the early stages of the project, carrying out evening demonstrations and mock ups to test how the lighting performed on the building itself. Alongside this, bespoke crown level metalwork was designed and fabricated to support the façade lighting, with careful consideration given to how it integrated with the existing structure.
Close coordination with the wider team ensured the lighting and supporting infrastructure were delivered in line with the design intent, while working within the constraints of a historic building and allowing for practical installation and ongoing maintenance.

Studiotech delivered the lighting control system and undertook full commissioning and programming on site. The system was programmed to provide a range of lighting scenes that enhance architectural detail and create atmosphere, while remaining appropriate to the castle’s heritage context.
Commissioning works ensured consistent performance across the façade and reliable operation of the control system following handover.
Experience
The completed scheme gives Inverness Castle a renewed night time identity, illuminating the façade and surrounding landscape along the River Ness with a considered and balanced approach. The project reflects a strong collaborative effort and is a proud example of the work delivered by the Studiotech Scotland team.
