LIGHTING CONTROL FOR UNION TERRACE GARDENS
Studiotech assisted lighting designers, Arup, with the design and specification of the site wide control system as part of the £28.3m refurbishment of the historic Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen.
Studiotech was also responsible for the supply, control and programming of the control system, with the system including astronomical clock, DALI fittings and four control cabinets distributed across the gardens.

CONTROL & PROGRAMMING
Studiotech played a key role in not only supplying the necessary equipment but also managing the control and programming of the entire lighting control system.
The system was designed to operate seamlessly using an astronomical clock, which ensures that the lighting adjusts automatically based on the time of sunrise and sunset. Additionally, the setup incorporated DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) fittings, allowing for precise and flexible control of individual lighting fixtures.
To distribute and manage the lighting efficiently across the gardens, four separate control cabinets were strategically placed throughout the area, ensuring optimal coverage and functionality. Furthermore, the system features a custom-designed web page, enabling users to override the pre-set lighting scenes manually when needed, providing additional flexibility and control over the lighting environment
Experience
The upgraded controls system has greatly enhanced the user experience, supporting the lighting infrastructure that creates a more welcoming, functional, and adaptable environment.
With improved brightness and even light distribution, visitors now enjoy better visibility and safety, whether navigating pathways or gathering in communal spaces.
