The Light Leeds
Client: Legal & General
Main Contractor: Bowmer & Kirkland
Project Manager: Paragon
Architect: DLG Architects
Lighting Designer: Hoare Lea
Scope of work; Detail design, supply and installation of feature lighting and signage.
Studiotech UK was brought in by lighting designer Hoare Lea to assist with the detailed design and delivery of the feature lighting, signage and re-branding throughout the refurbishment of The Light, a busy leisure and retail destination at the heart of Leeds city centre owned by Legal & General.
Studiotech took their initial designs and engineered a bespoke and dynamic lighting solution. The concept included various areas throughout the centre, including new signage; both interior and exterior, lighting to the roof beams and lastly, feature ring lighting.
Studiotech provided a specialist solution including the detailed design and manufacture of forty four bespoke feature rings in three different sizes. Each ring is constructed from a reinforced aluminium back tray with aluminium returns and an opal acrylic face panel. These are illuminated internally with an RGBW LED strip system with each one being individually addressable allowing us to programme a variety of effects and scenes, producing exciting and innovative visual displays. The programming also allows for future sequences to be assigned for key calendar dates and special events.
The rings were to be either suspended from the ceiling, attached to the central column or footbridge mountable: each option meaning our engineers had to work at a height of up to 25 metres.
The overall installation highlights a fantastic effort from the whole team involved. From detailed design, to engineering and installation and finally on to the programming, Studiotech have engineered and delivered this project to a very high but affordable quality. We are proud to add this development to our portfolio, and that The Light sees Studiotech assist in the creation of yet another iconic city centre destination.
The installation uses OSRAM Colormix Flex RGB1 tape, Traxon RGB Media Tubes and is controlled by a Traxon Lighting Control Engine MX and Butler XT2 and Butler S2 DMX controllers.
